The New Odin 820: Original Producer from
Germany, AND some of the Polish Immexus at the END

TO SCREW UP ANY SALES THAT BERNIE MAY HAVE BY TEMPTING PEOPLE TO WAIT FOR A BOAT
THAT MAY NOT COME TO THE USA FOR A LONG WHILE.
I traveled to Friedrichshaven, Germany which by chance had a LARGE boat show the
week I was over in Germany kayaking/camping with my sons. Both Odin and Immexus
were on display. What a treat. There is still ALOT of legal rangling going on
between the two companies and yet the boats (and all the new changes to them)
are almost identical. Most of the pictures here are of the Odin, but the MAJOR
changes (mast raising system, wider side decks, cockpit alterations etc etc)
are remarkably identical. First I will list what I remember are the Odin
changes (that are not shown in the photos).
1. the keel has been changed to make it point better. 2. The head is slightly
bigger. 3. The INSIDE of the water ballast tank has been gelcoated as well to
avoid blistering issues from the INSIDE. 4. A permanent bilge in standard with
pump handle in the back 5. Mast raising systems is permanent and very cool and
doesn't interfere much with deck space. 6. Hydraulic steering is standard
7.Wider side decks with limited impact down below. 8 VERY easy access to all
chainplates and deck fittings from down below. 9. Aft outboard mounting deck is
canted at an angle so the engine can keep the nose of the boat down better. 10.
Hull has been made heavier, but topsides lighter (thinner vs thicker fiberglass)
11. Removeable Stainless Steel 'bricks' placed under V-berth in slot to give
more ballast when intending to sail or remove if motoring. I'm not sure why they
would move the water tank from the vberth as that added weight there just fine.
Aft facing storage in stern now holds THREE gas tanks. Internal tank is now only
an option.
NOW ONTO THE IMMEXUS: Very similar such that I dont' know HOW these two can be made
in the European Union without the courts interceding ..it's a mess. The
manufacturer of the Odin was at the show, but only an Immexus dealer, so I
didn't get to meet Mario and company. The Lamprechts (founders of Odin) were
EXTREMELY nice people and hospitable and I wish them well although I don't care
WHICH version of our boat makes it in the USA as they are both pretty much the
same. The Immexus has upgraded the interior but now majorly so. The dealer told
me that next year they will be offering ...get this....a 120 HP inboard diesel.
And also a possible I/O model gas version. Also the boat they were showing was
about a FOOT longer and and inch or so wider than ours. They also had the new
mast raising system, the roomier cockpit, the new location of the battery box at
the foot of the stairs etc etc.
It was a great show and great to see so much interest in our boats. The folks at
Odin seem to have their hands full with just European distribution, but they
seemed very keen on coming again to the USA again once they meet their current
demand. It's good to see so much innovation on our boats even though there are
less than about 200 of them out there from BOTH vendors. See most of you in
Annapolis and you can drill me with more questions then. You Annapolis-ites, I
brought you some brochures from the show. Regards,
Deac
